Ice Report 1/8/21

Bring on 2021! From all of us at Gene's, we want to wish you a Happy New Year and thank you for your business and shopping local in 2020!

Fishing as of late remains consistent, and travel has become a lot easier. We are currently hearing reports of anywhere from 9-14 inches of ice on most area lakes, and as always, more in some areas and less in some areas. We are seeing some flooding on area lakes, so use caution when traveling around!

The walleye bite has been good, with the majority of the bites coming in the low light conditions of morning and evening. 14-20 feet of water on shoreline points, humps, and breaks has been producing the best. The combination of jigging a small spoon tipped with a minnow and have a set line down has been the secret to success! Big Pine, Little Pine, Star, Ottertail, Rush, and other are lakes are all producing.

The panfish bite has been very good, especially if you are willing to move around and chase them! 10-15 feet in the green weed flats have been producing the best. Small tungsten jigs tipped with a small grub have been the best. The crappie basin bite has also picked up, with crappies starting to school up in the deep water basins. Look for these fish to be suspended in the water column.

Happy Fishing Everybody!
