Fishing Report 1/11/24
Happy New Year from all of us at Gene's Sport Shop! We thank you for your business and loyalty in 2023, and we look forward to serving your hunting and fishing needs in 2024!
I apologize for not doing an ice report sooner, but with the unusual year, we decided to not to an overall ice report, for 2 weeks ago we had 6" of ice on some lakes, and fisherman fishing open water in the boat in other. What a strange year!
Currently the ice situation is good and looking better every day! With the cold temps we are putting on ice every night, and should have great ice for the weekend and foreseeable future! Currently, on MOST area lakes we are seeing 6-10 inches of good ice, with the average on MOST lakes right around that 8"-9" mark. We got a light dusting of snow, so travel on the lakes is very good. Some lakes have some cracks with thin
ice, and some areas of certain lakes may have thin ice, but as a whole, ice is good and we should be putting on ice for the remainder of the week. I expect we will see A LOT of fishermen this weekend, are are starting to see ATV travel and small permanent fish houses going out daily. It should be a great weekend!
With the late freeze and unusual ice, we are not hearing as many reports as usual, but the reports we are hearing is there is a good walleye bite on area lakes. The fish are in Mid-Winter spots, so shoreline breaks, points and mid lake structure in 16-24 feet of water has been the best! Hopefully we get more reports on the best bites over the weekend.
We are excited for the busy weekend, and have plenty of tackle and bait to get you on the water! With the late start to the ice season, we also have some AMAZING Sales on Rods, Tackles, and Electronics! Stop in an shop these great sales before you hit the ice!
I hope to get a better feel for ice and fishing reports after talking to anglers over the weekend, and will give a more detailed report next week. As always, Happy Fishing, and be safe on the ice! Our ice observations and reports are no guarantees, so check ice to and from your fishing location, and be safe!
