Ice Report 12/2/22
Hard to believe we are already talking about ice! I am not a fan of doing ice reports this time of year because of the inconsistency in the ice conditions. MOST area lakes, NOT ALL, have 3-6 inches of good, black ice that is safe for foot traffic. We have been selling a lot of bait the last few days, and anglers are reporting a good first ice bite for both walleye and panfish! Shoreline breaks are producing walleyes in 13-18 feet of water. A wide variety of minnows and techniques are producing. Although we are seeing good , walkable ice on a majority of lakes, there are a few area lakes, or portions of area lakes, that either just froze up in the last 48 hours or still have open water. I know that is a vague report, but we have been getting frequent calls asking on the ice report. So the short answer, yes, we are seeing fisherman wandering out onto lakes, but you need to use extreme caution when venturing out onto the ice!
We have a great selection of crappie minnows, fatheads, suckers, shiners, spearing decoys, wax worms and euro larvae for the weekend, and we are stocked up on all the latest and greatest ice fishing gear and equipment! I expect we will see a lot of fisherman heading out this weekend, and i will be able to give a much more detailed report after this weekend, especially with the cold weather in the immediate forecast.
Be safe this weekend, and make sure to check ice depth and quality to and from your fishing spot, venture on the ice with a fishing partner, bring ice picks, and BE SAFE. I will give another report next week with the reports we hear over the weekned.
Happy Fishing, and Stay Safe!
