Ice & Fishing Report 12/21/21

Merry Christmas! As we approach the Christmas Holiday, we FINALLY have some good consistent ice on the area lakes. Most area lakes are reporting 8-10 inches of good ice, with a few spots reporting just a little bit less, and a few reports of a foot or more good ice. As of the last couple days we are seeing a lot of wheel houses getting put out on the area lakes with ATVs, but as always, please be careful and use caution. Cold weather is in the immediate forecast, and the area lakes will continue to put on the more ice daily.

The walleye bite has been very good on Big Pine, Little Pine, Star, Rush, Ottertail, as well as other area lakes. The best bite has been on shoreline breaks, points as well as midlake humps and structure in 14-20 feet of water. Jigging spoons tipped with a fathead has been working well accompanied by a set line with a sucker or shiner. The low light time frame of morning and evening have been producing the best bite, as well as the occasional bite throughout the night.

The panfish bite has also been good on most area lakes in 10-16 feet of water on the weed flats. Being mobile and moving around while jigging a small tungeston jig tipped with a waxie or a plastic has been producing both bluegill and crappie. We will continue to get more panfish reports over the next few days.

So far we have been sitting really good on bait, and should have plenty of fatheads, crappies, suckers and shiners for the upcoming week, as well waxworms.

We hope everyone makes some time to get out and enjoy some time icefishing, and please be careful on the ice! We look forward to seeing you all soon, and hope you have a happy and blessed Christmas!

We will be open on December 24th from 7 a.m till 1 p.m and will be CLOSED on Christmas day to celebrate with our family and friends.

Happy Fishing and Merry Christmas from all of us at Gene's Sport Shop!
