Fishing Report 5/16

Happy fishing everyone! We hope you all had a great opening weekend and were able to sneak out and enjoy the beautiful weather. Here in Perham we were blessed with gorgeous weather, and the fishing was fair to good. As with any opener, we heard very mixed reports, but the majority of the anglers found a few walleyes for the fryin' pan, and stayed plenty busy with northerns and bass. A small sized 1/8th or even 1/16th ounce jig and a shiner seemed to be the best presentation fished in 4-10 feet of water. Other fisherman reported having luck lindy rigging a redtail, shinner, leech or crawler on the weedlines and shoreline breaks, and with the warm weather this presentation will get more effective each day. As usual, Big Pine, Little Pine, Rush, and Ottertail seemed to be the best lakes over the weekend for walleye. Panfish are also being found in the warm water bays of Big Pine, Rush, Marion, Star, and other area lakes. The best presentation right now is a simply small bobber and jig tipped with a crappie minnow, nightcrawler or small leech.

With the late spring and inconsistent weather, bait has been relatively hard to get at times, but right now we are siting good on fatheads, crappies, sucker minnows, leeches and crawlers, and as off right now (5/16) we have spottail shiners.

Happy fishing to everyone , and be safe!
